What is M.L.M in Total Station.

I am Irfan and I have sufficient experience in total station survey. Today we will describe the method of survey named Missing Line Measurement. (M.L.M)

The term M.L.M in Total Station means Missing Line Measurement. This term is used to find the missing component of the point between two lines.

The missing line measurement (M.L.M) is the most popular and most ever used option in the total station. In  this article we will discuss the uses and advantages of missing line measurement.

What is M.L.M?

M.L.M means missing line measurement. This option of the total station is used to find the distance between two points or object. It is also used to find out the slope between two points, and also used to find the vertical distance (level) between two points.

You can also find the slope percentage between two points using Missing Line Measurement.

How to use?

For using this option go to Main Menu button or find out M.L.M option in pages section.

You will see the following options after.

F1               F2              F3              F4

M.L.M      MOVE         REC           OBS

put on the prism rod of the first point you want to find. and press F4 (OBS).

The instrument will give you the horizontal distance between instrument and that point.

Then after you go to next point and put your prism rod there and press F1 (M.L.M). the instrument will give you three different values.

S = ___________________

H =____________________

V =____________________

S means slop distance between two points.

H means horizontal distance between two points.

V means vertical distance between two points. Vertical distance is also called level.

Advantages of Missing Line Measurement.

The missing line measurement option is used in different purposes on site.

It is used to determine the length of two points on site.

Its also used to find level difference in long and cross sections

When you don’t have level meter on site, you can use total station and use this function to find out levels.

This option is also used to level up the coloum and walls.

The missing line measurement is used to find out the slope of ground on site and also find out the slope percentage of two different objects.
